The Franklin County Humane Society (FCHS) has long realized that pet overpopulation is a very seriousActive Image problem in this area. Much of this problem stems from the fact that many low income families cannot afford to spay or neuter their pets. To help combat this problem, a group of volunteers with FCHS has developed the SNIF Program (Spay & Neuter In Franklin County). This program provides subsidies for sterilization of dogs and cats for low-income families living in Franklin County. Low-income families who qualify will be able to spay or neuter their pets for a low co-pay of $25 for cats and $40 for dogs. The balance of the cost is covered through money raised by FCHS through fund-raisers and donations. In addition to the sterilization surgery, animals will also receive pain medication, rabies and distemper vaccinations.

For an application for the SNIF Program, call The Franklin County Humane Society, 990-1047 (leave your mailing address), and a volunteer will mail you an application or download an application . Once your application has been received (please allow 10 business days) and approved, a volunteer will contact you and make an appointment. For a list of qualification requirements, visit the FCHS website www.fchsnc.org.

For those who do not qualify for the Humane Society sponsored program, may contact SNAP (Spay & Neuter Assistance Program) for other low cost spay and neuter options. Call for an appointment 783-7627 or visit their website www.snap-nc.org.
