How To Adopt PDF Print E-mail
  1. After you find A Dog or Cat, review the description of the foster you are interested in to make sure that the information we have fits with your particular needs and desires. In most cases, the information on the website is current and gives the information that we have about the particular foster. The picture of the foster does not tell the whole story.
  2. Complete the adoption application. Please make sure that you give us as much information about yourself as you can. List all animals currently living with you including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and rodents. The application needs to be complete in order to help us determine if the foster you have chosen is a good match for your home.
  3. Once the application is submitted you will usually receive an email letting you know if the foster would be a good match for you and making arrangements for you to meet the dog at one of our adoption events. Sometimes a foster is best shown at the foster home due to his or her personality. We will let you know where the foster home is and arrange a time that works both for you and the foster home.We do require that everyone who will live with the foster to come and meet them. There is a chance we may tell you that the foster you are interested in is not a good match and may suggest another foster.
  4. If, after meeting the foster you decide you would like to adopt him or her, a home visit will be scheduled. Someone from the Franklin County Humane Society will call and do the visit. The foster does not come on the home visit. Home visits are required before any forster leaves our program.
  5. If more than one person applies and meets the same foster, all things being equal, we go in the order the applications were received.
  6. Once the home visit has been completed, you will be asked to complete an adoption agreement. Please read the agreement carefully to make sure that you understand what you will be agreeing to.
  7. An adoption fee of $200.00 for dogs and $125.00 for cats is requested for all fosters. This fee helps us to provide the necessary medical care and other needs for the fosters while in foster care. All FCHS fosters are altered, current on shots, microchipped, and to our knowledge, in good health before they are adopted out. We are all volunteers and as such receive no monetary compensation for our work with the fosters. The adoption fee is used to help defray costs in the rescue and care of the fosters.
  8. Congratulations! You are on your way to having you new furry companion. We hope that you and your new companion share a life of love and happiness. We welcome any comments you may wish to give us about your foster at any time.
